I have been thinking about getting into this topic but have no idea about miniatures. I am thinking 15mm or 20mm to cut down on table size.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

There is a great selection in 20mm, especially Liberation Miniatures.

Also, there are tons of diecast armor in 1/72 which is 20mm, and you don't have to paint the vehicles. There are several other companies as well.

Peter Pig has a line called AK47 that might do. It's focus is "modern" wars in Africa, tho might be a bit later than you have in mind.

A lot of the Vietnam War 1/72nd scale plastic figures would work well I think.

Underfire has some nice 20mm as well. I would agree with the great selection of Liberation as well.

Elhiem also has wonderful 20mm Mercs and Simbastroops .ish UN .Also Irish UN in Congo 1960s ,of which some can be used for Swedish UN troops .Liberation are great figures .Large line ,just a hassle to order from.

The Peter Pig AK47 line in 15mm is ideally suited to this kind of wargaming. Whilst some of the later releases (Israeli, USMC, FFL) are aimed more at the 80s and 90s the "core" sets are firmly in the 60s and 70s.

Peter Pig 15mm and Liberation Miniatures 20mm are both good. If you are looking for a set of rules I suggest Wars of Insurgency:

Thanks for all the information guys!
Liberation Miniatures look like they are mail order only.
Peter pig has a huge line with vehicle's as well.
I think my brother has the Wars of Insurgency rules so I will definitely check them out.
Thanks again

Peter Pig's AK47 Republic rules give a good game. It's well supported on the RFCM Forum and there is a Mercenary Cored Army list (No: 14) in the current Reloaded version.

Best wishes, Martin
