The best campaign map I've seen is the one of Saxony that came with the Empire Campaign System rules that was published decades ago. Is there a source of other campaign maps of that quality available anywhere else? I have a large two piece map that came from a US board game on the Russian campaign but it was covered with icons etc relating to the game which was distracting. Any suggestions?

This is a large collection of maps, but they are not 100% accurate. I did use them to run a Napoleonic Campaign in Poland between France and an Allied Coalition of Austrians, Prussians and Russians. They worked very well for me. murat.ca/maps.htm

Thanks Major Mike. What is the scale?

Major Mike11 Feb 2022 7:07 a.m. PST

For me, I used the scale that a grid on the map equaled a 2' x 2' square on the battlefield. As units maneuver on the campaign map, no more than a Corps in any square, once enemy forces occupied adjacent squares, a battle developed. The side with initiative got to determine which 6 map squares made up the 4'x6' battlefield. Units in the squares chosen were deployed on the battlefield. Units in adjacent square were available as possible reinforcements.

Thanks Major Mike.

How many squares can Infantry cavalry and Artillery travel through in a day's march.

The rule of thumb I used was infantry/artillery 1 square a day and cavalry were 2 squares. If they were following a major road on the map, they moved a little faster and if the weather was bad they moved slower.
