I just read that HR Games is banned for 30 days on Facebook, due to a photo that was posted of an Avalon Hill boardgame that had a swastika in the artwork. Facebook is giving them time to "reflect." |

Unfortunate but inevitable. Whoever was daft enough to post the picture clearly hasnt been aware of the FB bots that have resulted in similar action many, many times over the last few years. Also, try doing that in Germany and see how car you get |

I have a copy of Shirer's classic Rise and Fall of the Third Reich on my bookshelf. There is a swastika on the spine. I haven't yet been mistaken for a nazi. Maybe anyone who sees it and doesn't know what the book is has just been afraid to say anything. |

What we all need is an adults only special registration parallel sub-internet. On it, you can upload whatever you like. Ebay, Netflix, Facebook, Instagram can apply to have alt accounts within it. We can call it Dodge City. No content is prohibited, tho users can set personal filters. The Moderators will entertain complaints from users regarding any content. Only Spam is removed. If a user complains about non Spam content, and declines to set a personal filter, they get "swinging doored," suspended. Don't like it. Don't come here. Now that's what I call a safe space. |

Trying to remember the TMP poster who got bleeped and I think possibly doghoused for referring to an earthen dam much used in the Netherlands to contain water. No sexual context whatever, but it sounded the same. Pot. Kettle. Everyone with a web site wants to be a censor today, but no one wants to pay for sharp, educated and language-fluent people to do the censoring. |

Some people argue that overreacting to symbols of hate gives them more power. It's a a persuasive argument. And won't the ultimate product of these policies be the opposite of what we want? Photoshopped images of the game or actual games with the word rhymes-with-yahtzee replaced with "bad guys" and the not-a-buddhist-symbol replaced with the frowny face emoji? Will that not make the horrors less horrible and thus more repeatable? Well, you don't go to social media for logic or fairness. I think you have to train yourself to post with a conscious and unconscious awareness that people can't hear your sarcasm or any other nuance, that they will give your words and images the lightest possible attention, that they will reach ignorant and malicious conclusions readily, that what can be misunderstood will be, and that no one is ever going to back down and apologize so you have to get it right the first time. You have to fight the battle between what they think is right and what they *think* you said. Be careful, be clear, expect the worst. I don't have a Facebook account. I can imagine I might get one with enough motivation, but if that hasn't happened yet it's not likely to. If I do get a Facebook account to participate in some cool thing I will keep my mouth tightly shut. |

We had an old Complete Works of Kipling in our library which had a swastika on the spine. Every couple of years we would have a minor brew up over it.

Waco, don't keep us in suspense. In the end, did you rebind or "deaccession?" (I find it on my own "Authorized Edition" Kipling--1912 on--but not earlier. Presumably part of that pre-WWI fascination with the East which will lead to Madame Blavatsky, the Thule Society and "Dwellers in the Mirage." I note my facsimile editions keep it in the pages, but remove it from spine and cover. Probably sufficient. The people who fuss over this don't spend a lot of time reading books.) |

Knowing who runs Facebook and Twitter, why is anyone surprised. Only accepted views allowed. Can't let anyone challenge their mindset. Might cause someone to reconsider. I refuse to have either one. Maybe someday we will have platforms that allow all sides and let us make our own decisions. Ahhh and maybe pigs will fly. 😢 |

I was selling some militaria that didn't fit in with my collection's theme -- a long service ribbon with a small device -- and it was rejected in no time flat. |

My $.02 USD cents, In Kipling's time, the swastika was a symbol in many cultures and it meant many different things, like to the Some folks it was a religious symbol, luck, strength, magical power and such. The Nazi's ruined its reputation and end up using it as a sign for. I wonder if any other country/people have used such their own symbol. Also, the swastika has been ruined because there are way too many people in this world who don't understand all of it's past meanings. I have a cast iron holder, from about 1860. It has a swastika symbol in the middle of it. Perhaps, the owner bought it to show hate for the 'undesirables'---DOUBT IT! I am sure that it was there for some other, more pleasant reason! So, everybody get over it and accept that symbol for what it really is/was---many different things to many different peoples of all races, religions and color. I guess I am done with my rant about it! Tom Semian |
