Hi All,

It's snowing like a banshee outside right now here in the Midwest, so today I decided was a good time to post an update on a fun "art of war" project I finished up, which was inspired by Greg Wagman, well known from the Little Wars TV (Army Group York) club, and from a featured article he's had up on his Altar Of Freedom ACW rules website for a long time – making customs dice trays for your game -

So – from across the veldt somewhere in Zululand, comes a bellowing shout from Private George…..where's me ammo!

Would someone please hand "George" a dice tray? :)))

The kit bits in the pic were bought cheap from Michaels and Hobby Lobby craft stores, with the fabric coming from a placemat, and the wooden boxes from the floral aisle. Once the fabric inserts were cut to each box size, they were fixed in with carpet tape, and are now ready for action (and an upcoming AZW game planned for this March).

I would not have thought of using double-sided carpet tape. Nice, clean, easy, dry method of attaching the fabric. Well done! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Clever clever!

Advocate, and Frederick – thank you too!

All that cleverness comes from those crafty guys on the east coast!

I did put a layer of 1 cm thick fun foam under the fabric, to take out some of the bounce and noise from all the incoming rifle-shot dice throws (not sure this was necessary), but it's a hidden, maybe useful feature.

I use wooden dice towers, with matching trays. The towers have four baffles, bare wood; the trays are MDF bottoms, with leather covers contact cemented into place. The hardwood baffles ensure the dice bounce and spin, randomly, and the hard bottom'ed trays also ensure the dice continue to roll until they run out of energy, but… They do make plenty of noise in the process. Good thing I like that noise.

Oh, and the bouncing and rolling guarantees random numbers are generated -- usually really bad random numbers. Consistently bad random numbers… I have the casualties to prove it. ;-) Cheers!

Sarge, hearing about your dice tower sorta reminded me of that classic Mouse Trap Game. :)))
