Have started playing modified Battlefront. Short report found here: link
Still trying to find the right rules and now maybe even the right scale for figures!

Cold War Commander does battalions well and so does Fistful of TOWS.

As does Command Decision: Test of Battle (Battalion per player)

Joe,
Take a look at Rapid Fire. The new version is streamlined,
fast and simple. The second version has more detail and
probably be a better fit for what you are looking for.

Thank you all.for the continued suggestions. For cold war commander and FFT how does c+c work? That is what I am disliking about battlefront? Sabre, you have mentioned CD before and it looks interesting. How is C+c there? Bismark, people seem to either love or hate rapid fire. From my reading am not sure give the large scale of the units. 45 people per figure?
Wish there was a con around to try the games out! Again thank you for your suggestions. I realize all this is subjective but appreciate the responses.

FFT3 rolls most C+C into Troop Quality and Cohesion.
There are optional Friction rules and HQ rules for more grit.
It's a great system.

Joe,
Troop ratio for both Rapid Fire and Rapid Fire reloaded is
one figure represents 15 men and one tank or vehicle represents 5 vehicles.

Basically depending on nationality or period, 8 to 12 figures
represent a company.

Like you, yeah, one to 45 ain't gonna cut it for what you are
looking for. Just Jack was looking at a similar scale set
of rules a while back. You might reach out to him.

best always,

Sam

Thanks Sam. Appreciate the discussion. FFTS seems good but hate to spend money and them have to craft rules on top of it. Command decision keeps popping up but not sure of their c+c. Maybe I will look to improve battlefront a while longer.

Thanks

Joe
