Ive gotten a couple 1/100 scale German WWI planes from Shapeways. They don't come with pilots. I guess I should try my hand at sculpting. I will be using Milliput epoxy putty to make the figures. One of the figures is a rear gunner on a two-seater. I'll need to sculpt his weapon and the mounting too. I will be using modified heads from some 15mm figures. Not sure if anyone out there has tried this before. If you have, or if you've some helpful ideas, I like to hear from you. Cheers! Gallo |

Peter Pig sells a lot of different head packs. No pilots that I am aware of, but they might be worth a look. |

Peter Pig heads link page to the bottom at Not Heads and you will see 1/144 pilots and both German and British rear gunners. I've never seen them in the flesh so I cannot say how they will look in person. Or Russian Heads 137 WW2 Russian paratroop heads with cloth or leather 'helmets', that look like flying helmets with googles above their eyes ready to be pulled down. They look better I think.

I have a bunch of Wings of War/Glory biplanes. They are scaled for 1/144. I think that the PP 1/144 pilot and gunner heads will be too small for your 1/100 biplanes. But the suggested Russian WW2 paratrooper heads look spot-on. Jim |

Yes, I see what you mean about the Peter Pig Russian para helmets looking like pilot helmets with goggles. I think they would be very good for many WWI pilots. Thanks for the links. They would certainly save me some sculpting time. I had planned to include basically the heads, coat collar and shoulders of the figures, perhaps the arms of the guy firing, facing the tail. I'm in the USA so it will take some time to order, I could possibly get them from Brookhurst Hobbies in California. Cheers! Gallo |
