Some shots of the finished Rick's Place ( one of three) and The Souk (one of two) Sally 4th mdf kits from their discontinued Exotic Location range. All the doors open and the five kits are modular consisting of 54 10cm x 10 cm tiles.

Is this the beginning of a beautiful friendship or something that you'll regret – maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but someday…

That's really sweet…and DAMN! I didn't know they had discontinued their buildings… I had these on my "to buy" list….

Everybody comes to Rick's!

But definitely, from top to bottom, a great cast. Casablanca belongs on several of the shortest of very short lists.

It is, for my money, the greatest Hollywood film ever made with a perfect cast, great writing, superb sets and memorable improve ("Here's looking at you kid.") Captain Reynaud's lines alone deserve an Oscar.

Your building is terrific. I have had the pleasure and honor of playing a Rick's centered game and it was great. Play it for us Sam!

Hi Jim,
Absolutely fair comment, sir. In fact, I just learned an interesting factoid in the course of reading about the cast – The actor Conrad Veidt, who played the role of Major Strasser in "Casablanca", also portrayed the malevolent monster in "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari".

"I am shocked--Shocked!" has become a family catcb-phrase for so many situations.

We watch Casablanca every New Years Eve as part of our anniversary celebrations.

I believe the 80th anniversary of the movie is coming up this year.

Some talking-head movie "expert" once said (and maybe he knew) that they were making up the story as they went along, and didn't know what to do after Rick shot Major Strasser until someone said: "The usual suspects!"

Well, since Warners bought the rights to "Everybody Comes to Ricks" which includes the plot and all the major characters, I wouldn't go quite that far, donlowry. But getting Rick out of that particular hole was unique to the movie script, and the Epstein twins claimed credit. It certainly doesn't sound like Howard Koch, who would be the alternative. Mind you, "the usual suspects" had been said earlier in the film. One of the Epsteins claimed the idea came to them together: they turned to face each other and both said it. It could be true.

Trust me. In studio days, they pretty much never made up the story as they went along. There was a script and a budget derived from that script before production started--which is not to say there weren't changes, but it's why they never produced the budgetary fiascos of later years.

"You must remember this.
A kiss is just a kiss; a smile is just a smile.
The fundamental things apply, as time goes by."

What actor today could take on the role of Rick? I cannot think of anyone with the presence, the gravitas, or the masculinity of Bogart.

Blutarski, Conrad Veidt had a stage as well as a film career in Germany, before leaving over his anti-Nazi views and his Jewish wife. After leaving Germany, he almost always played a Nazi, and is said to have had it in his contract that they always be villains. (Remember, for some time Hollywood approached Nazi Germany with the same cringing deference presently given the Chinese Communist Party: wouldn't want to lose the central European market, after all.)

But when we're talking great cast, let's not forget Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre.

Blutarski01 Feb 2022 9:38 a.m. PST

Hi Robert,
True words indeed. There are so many great actors in that film it is easy to forget. I even forgot one of my own favorites, Claude Rains as Captain Renault ….. "Your winnings, Sir".

I wonder if there is enough acting talent in the Hollyweird of today to make such a film.
