Will be held at the Lancaster Host Wyndham!
November 4-6
Huzzah!

14Bore21 Jan 2022 3:08 a.m. PST

Woo hoo! I should be there.

WarWizard21 Jan 2022 3:23 a.m. PST

That is good news!

Thank you. Very good news.

DrSkull21 Jan 2022 6:25 a.m. PST

Rock on

HMS Exeter21 Jan 2022 6:31 a.m. PST

So, they switched back from Valley Forge?!

I thought that one was pretty set in stone. I wonder if the adamant pronouncement from the Little Wars guy in their video that he would never come back to VF carried any weight.

GamesPoet Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2022 6:42 a.m. PST

Got to imagine the board was looking at more than one aspect of where to have it. Fall-In has far too long of a track record to be worried about one voice.

Also … noticed Huzzah! was listed above without a date … scheduled for May 12th to the 15th in Portland ME. wink

The Little Wars guy probably won't be there either … lol … although it is a wonderful convention to attend. thumbs up

(Uh oh … GP has found the emoticons. huh? )

Evidently my conscience has too.

Garryowen Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2022 6:53 a.m. PST

It would be great to get there.

I am not sure they had another option. I understand that the Valley Forge Facility did not provide a quote in a timely manner.

I have always enjoyed the old Host location. Looking forward to seeing how things are now that construction is all completed around the event barn.

Tumbleweed Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2022 7:11 a.m. PST

The Viking Forge will plan to attend Cold Wars 2022 as a dealer. See you there!

Cheers,

Tumbleweed

The circle is now complete.

GreenMountainBoy21 Jan 2022 7:51 a.m. PST

Excellent shameless plug for Huzzah! "The best historical wargaming convention in New England!"

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2022 8:27 a.m. PST

As of this morning, the Host's room block for Fall In is not open. I am assured it will open "way before the convention." But of course, it's already way before the convention--and later than I would normally make reservations. We shall persist.

For those who missed it, I attended Cold Wars just pre-lockdown. The Host now has the ugliest carpet and wallpaper known to mankind, but all the mechanicals are in good order and the restaurant re-opened. It will be good to be back.

Disco Joe21 Jan 2022 11:07 a.m. PST

So Tumbleweed, Viking Forge plans to attend a convention that has been canceled. Good luck with that.

Grattan54 Supporting Member of TMP21 Jan 2022 11:44 a.m. PST

I like the Lancaster too. Wish I could make it but I can't.

The Host now has the ugliest carpet and wallpaper

Why does no one ever mention the light fixtures in the Distlefink? I tune out the other stuff (mostly) but those things give me acid flashbacks. They look like somebody aspired to be Dale Chihuly, but gave up.

I am super excited to be back at the Host but will likely stay nearby at the Hipster Hilton.

Mollinary21 Jan 2022 1:25 p.m. PST

Never been the same since it left Gettysburg. That was the perfect location, and worth crossing the Atlantic for.

HMS Exeter21 Jan 2022 3:17 p.m. PST

Be gentle with Viking Forge, Disco. He's still mourning the loss of OC. He loves that place. His Freud just slipped.

TSD10121 Jan 2022 8:37 p.m. PST

This is an outrage. Don't you know how expensive the Host is now that its been renovated? What is the BOD doing moving it back there? There's actual warm showers now. Mold free hallways! Clean restrooms! Decent food service! Don't even mention the fact that the Host holds the record attendance for the conventions, think how crowded the hallways will be and how much competition for the flea market you'll have!

I'm going to need HistoryGamer and Rustycop to help form a support group for all of us absolutely crushed by this news.

Disco Joe:

At 12:12 AM 0n 1/22/2022 a visit to the HMGS website revealed the following:

Fall In! 2022
Mark Your Calendars
HMGS Inc.® is pleased to announce that the dates and location for Fall In!® 2022 have been finalized.

Due to the short time available between the decision process and the event, the Board focused on locations that a) we had previous experience with, and b) had workable dates.

Fall In!® 2022 will be on November 4th-6th, 2022 at the Lancaster Wyndham Resort and Convention Center (formerly known as the Host), Scott Landis will be the Convention Director.

A date for the opening of the room block has not yet been defined. As more details are available they will posted to the Fall In!® webpage.

I hope to see you at Fall-In, Joe.

By the way, thanks for the heads-up about the cancellation of Cold Wars 2022.

Rustycop Retired 201921 Jan 2022 11:12 p.m. PST

TSD101 everything will be ok. Find your special place.

Disco Joe22 Jan 2022 9:03 a.m. PST

Tumbleweed, I plan on being there so see you then.

oldnorthstate22 Jan 2022 10:01 a.m. PST

As I predicted several months ago…but then this

"Due to the short time available between the decision process and the event, the Board focused on locations that a) we had previous experience with, and b) had workable dates"

When are they finally going to admit that there are precious few venues located in the target geographic area that meet the gaming space, number of rooms and cost criteria. This BoD is not the first to cast about trying to find a "better" venue, hence the Baltimore and Ocean City fiasco's.

ScottWashburn Sponsoring Member of TMP22 Jan 2022 11:03 a.m. PST

Always liked the Host. Glad to be returning. PaperTerrain will be there!

TRUgamer22 Jan 2022 3:02 p.m. PST

Old North State,
I'm certain the BOD is acutely aware of the limited number of venues that meet our requirements.
It's good to see that the Wyndham was competitive enough to remain a consideration.

The carpeting is horrendous, but not more so than some other convention sites I've visited. It's standard camouflage for the odd food/drink stains…
It's the old post modern vomit splatter pattern.

Grumble8710622 Jan 2022 7:11 p.m. PST

The Host now has the ugliest carpet and wallpaper known to mankind.

The only gamers who need to worry about the carpet are the floor-based naval players, and don't they usually put down their own temporary floor?

At least, so far no one has developed a game that needs to be played on the wallpaper -- that I know of.

I have to admit, the first time I saw the new carpet, I thought it was a desperate last-minute measure using bargain material to get the floors ready for our convention, and that it would be replaced in good time. Apparently not. huh?

REALLY glad to be back at the Host/Wyndham/Whatever for Fall-In. For more than 20 years, that place has meant "HMGS convention" to me in a unique (and best) way.

This is great news. Bringing it home

Rustycop Retired 201922 Jan 2022 9:19 p.m. PST

Milhouse can't wait for the nuptials. George can kill two birds with one stone. Deal all day party all night.

Bottom of the stairs in front of Distlefink. Look for the oil. 😧

Frank,

What you got planned?

Grimm

snurl129 Jan 2022 2:24 a.m. PST

Grimmnar-
Same as usual, Friday night, start around 7. Bring your own war band from before or start a new one. GW approved only.

epturner29 Jan 2022 7:34 p.m. PST

Works for me.

As Scott is a friend of mine, I shall abuse him for being CD in addition to my normally scheduled abuse…

I'll have no excuse not to attend, unless Uncle Sam decides to preclude my attendance.

Robbodrum26 Sep 2022 10:03 a.m. PST

Any word on when the event list / registration will be available for this? The initial dates posted on the HMGS site said 9/23 for events and 9/26 for registration but I haven't seen anything yet. Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything!

Martyn K26 Sep 2022 10:13 a.m. PST

It is not published yet. I think that they are getting close to issuing the PEL. You have not missed anything.

Robbodrum26 Sep 2022 10:19 a.m. PST

Great, thank you!

95th Division26 Sep 2022 5:21 p.m. PST

They just staffed out a draft PEL to club POCs and GMs last week for review. So it should be coming soon.

Robbodrum28 Sep 2022 6:02 a.m. PST

Heads up all, it looks like the PEL is out!

Martyn K28 Sep 2022 7:24 a.m. PST

41 Pages of games, should be something for everyone.

TSD10128 Sep 2022 12:22 p.m. PST

Guess I can start the advertising?

Brandon Fraley and I will be running 3 ww2 games on a large table featuring a German armored train using his Hail of Fire rules which are available online at Wargame Vault.

F18:582 6 PM
S11:583 11 AM
S18:584 6 PM

These are 4 hour games for 8 players. Big table, lots of nice figures, and lots of fun. We hope to see you there.

Disco Joe29 Sep 2022 10:17 a.m. PST

When will attendee registration open? I went online and all I could find is TBD.

Bezmozgu730 Sep 2022 7:04 a.m. PST

Per an email I received from HMGS yesterday, on-line registration starts at noon tomorrow -- Saturday, 1 October.
