Talking to my dad tonight he mentioned this guy, who he said scared him stiff when he was in Egypt, 1952. "Myitkyina – To the growing Festing legend was added another dramatic chapter this week-end when Major General Francis Wogan Festing personally led the advance platoon of the 36th British Division into Mawlu. The leader of the platoon was killed, leaving the unit in charge of a sergeant. Festing, who is generally at the front, took over, and, probably the highest ranking officer ever to command a platoon, led it into Mawlu." So, in Chain of Command – exactly how many CI Points does a Major General get when acting as a platoon commander?? link Nick |

As many as a Company commander, unless his staff is there too |

Saber6 has it – an inspired commander who is one man is, no matter how inspired, one man |

One, maybe two, tops. I'd be very wary of a person with limited or outdated experience of platoon command, no matter how exalted his rank. |

I agree with the above. He is one man with a very limited scope of reference. |

But a very highly motivated one. |

What does rank have to do with it? Just because someone is a major general does not make all major generals the same? Where is the accounting for the individual abilities of the man. No two are ever the same. |
