Just read an essay speculating that THIS is a model of how civil conflict in the near future (in USA) would go. Could be.

Night Rider attacks in both Hopkinsville, Ky., and Princeton, Ky. were remarkably well-organized onslaughts of military-like precision as hundreds of Night Riders moved in to town to guard police stations, barricade fire departments, and destroy switchboards before burning down Duke's full warehouses. They were reported to have been led by Dr. David Amos, who was one of the early organizers of the movement.

Here's the Wiki article.

The Night Riders began to attack individual farms and crops if the farmers did not support the Association.[6] Large groups of armed Night Riders even took over some towns in actions in which they destroyed tobacco crops stored in Trust warehouses, as well as the buildings and machinery. They also attacked individuals who supported the Trust.[5] The Night Riders were known to be an efficient association.

In 1908, the association exerted its peak of control, having gained nearly complete control of the Dark Leaf tobacco crop. The Night Riders achieved their success through violence and illegal, vigilante actions.[10] In order to protect themselves from the government, some Night Riders gained election into office in affected Dark Patch regions.[1] They gained control of elected judicial positions and officers of the counties. Attorneys for some victims began to move plaintiffs out of Kentucky to establish residency elsewhere and qualify for a lawsuit in the federal courts. This broke the power of the Night Riders in local courts and brought them under the judicial process.[6]

In April 1908 a National Guard force led by First Lieutenant Newton Jasper Wilburn launched a series of daring raids against the Night Riders' leaders. Most of the Night Riders eventually escaped justice, but Wilburn's actions restored law and order to the region. The Amoss House in Caldwell County is dedicated to the history of Dr. Amoss and the Night Riders. Other area museums house numerous artifacts and personal histories regarding the era of the Night Riders.

NG 1LT who broke up the Night Riders.

Doc adds: I suspect I am far from the only one who has mixed feelings about all of this. Who were the good guys and who were the bad?

So are these guys modern Night Riders in training? or the FBI?

I saw a show about this on the Travel or History Channel, IIRC … And yes something like this could even happen today. But I somehow doubt it. However, Antifa is a good choice to do this kind of thing.

And they keep getting let out of jail …

Escapee Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2022 9:28 p.m. PST

Patriot Front derived from the Charlottesville group in 2017. I won't give them any more attention.

These guys are not government agents, who are hopefully safely home tonight and every night, those who can. Don't forget the reality of what law enforcement people do for all of us every day. And that most definitely includes the FBI.

Neither, just a bunch of candy ass racist punks.

doc mcb10 Jan 2022 6:41 a.m. PST

Tort, it seems nobody else wants to pay them any attention either, and hurrah for that. But they sure are young and fit, and seem to be in with the police in DC and Chicago, who let them break the law (no riding in U-hauls, covered license plates.)

Escapee Supporting Member of TMP10 Jan 2022 8:01 a.m. PST

Doc, LEOs are not going after these guys for that stuff and provoke a confrontation which could put them or the marchers in danger, escalate into more attention to give PF exactly what they are looking for, and involve the media.

If I am on highway duty and stop every vehicle doing 68, I could miss the guy doing 90. The letter of the law and the intent of the law are not always the same. The intent of the law is to keep everyone safe and the guy doing 90 is the threat.

Their appearance is part of their MO. It's does not necessarily indicate government employees except on tv shows.

Your explanation is possible. So is mine.

just a bunch of candy ass racist punks.
Probably … a lot of that going around …

However, like any "insurgency" … someone, somewhere has to support it. E.g. the VC/NVA had the USSR & PRC/CCP.

Antifa, etc., etc., or candy ass racist punks, etc. ? All have a "cause", agenda, etc.

And IMO generally not good …

doc, your experience working as a police officer during a civil disturbance may be different than mine, but we are always briefed to ignore minor violations and to concentrate on life safety issues. Moving violations are de minimis.

doc mcb10 Jan 2022 10:16 a.m. PST

No such experience on my part. Nevertheless, my trust for the FBI is minimal.

Escapee Supporting Member of TMP10 Jan 2022 11:30 a.m. PST

+1 79th, I tried to make the same point above.

Re: political activity at the FBI, it's a small percentage, IMO, and includes left and right wing adherents as in any large organization. One of the casualties of the post truth era is we do not see the forrest for the trees. Some people have Zinned the FBI to suit their own narratives and undermine it for reasons we can only guess at. They want us to feed on outrage, most of it phony, and ignore the good work. I'm not buying it. Bringing up the two politicized agents and doing a Zinn thing on the FBI? Just more misdirection.

It is in their blood, in their DNA.

Escapee Supporting Member of TMP10 Jan 2022 9:02 p.m. PST

No.Hoover's various alleged misdeeds and right wing extremism are part of history. There are no guarantees that any organization is completely clean and that includes law enforcement.

But I still believe in American institutions, including today's FBI. There are people there who risk there lives for this country. I also believe in the intelligence services, the Justice Department, the Joint Chiefs, etc. None are perfect. But throwing the baby out with the bath water is a mistake. There are a lot of good people trying to work in these agencies and they help hold the country together.

It is no easy task fighting to hang on to agency integrity in the face of self interested politicians looking to scapegoat you, gut your resources, and keep you from doing your job, turning everything into power politics for personal gain. It's amazing anyone still serves.

doc mcb10 Jan 2022 9:59 p.m. PST

I agree with that last paragraph, yes. But Deleted by Moderator
