We were indoctrinated with Lost Cause stuff for a hundred years. |

Blutarski – You live on planet Earth. Fact/Truth The Earth revolves around the Sun. Fact/Truth You were born. Fact/Truth You're going to die. Fact/Truth There are no alternative Facts/Truths for these Facts/Truths. |

All facts are truth, otherwise they are not facts. But there is far far more to truth than facts. Statements about motives, or feelings, or choices may be true, or partly true, but are not facts. "LBJ was president from 1963 to 1969." fact "LBJ mishandled the war in Vietnam." a valid (true) conclusion, but not precisely a fact. |

Jan 6 hearings. Reality. Truth. Morality. Faith. Courage. Some people refuse indoctrination. |

Show trials with no adversarial process are worthless for knowing truth. |

Show trials with no adversarial process are worthless for knowing truth. They're not trials, they are evidentiary hearings which anyone remotely involved with the events leading up to January 6th can attend. Additionally, hearings to discover the truth can hardly be said to be worthless for establishing just that. |

No cross examination. No credence. |

Sorry doc, I just can't buy it. It's a hearing. The witnesses are inner circle and/or credible members and supporters of the last administration. I was expressing my admiration for their courage and patriotism. They were right there as supporters of POTUS, but chose honor and drew a line. I don't know what will happen, but Lost Cause-style indoctrination is in the works, I'm guessing. My earlier post echoed former Atty General William Barr, but it was not appropriate and I apologize, doc. Tort |

No cross examination. No credence. There was ample opportunity to place responsible people on that committee from both sides of the spectrum but there was more a desire to derail and discredit it from the get-go, not work in unison to provide stress tests and make it more balanced. You cannot refuse to participate or cooperate with a view to then claim that it isn't a fact/truth finding exercise. |

I don't know what will happen, but Lost Cause-style indoctrination is in the works, I'm guessing. It's a reminder about just how dishonest men can be until they are put under oath and called to account. Still it's revolting to see one of them take the 5th when asked if they believe in a peaceful transfer of power. Col Durnford: Zinn hated everything about this country with a passion. What exactly did Zinn hate about this country? Did it include a hatred of Western style liberal democracy? @doc One other thing to do with history. Are you suggesting that when history gets written, primary sources need to be treated with with skepticism and given rigorous stress tests by the author or it bears no credence? Ditto with authors who write history? |

I go back to Mark Levin. I believe he is an extremist, intolerant, maybe even less of an historian than Zinn. Does he hate America? I do not believe that. Nor do I believe it of Zinn. Levin's and Zinn's Americas are not mainstream, or even very coherent. They have, or had, every right to sell their books. |

I can't say if he loves or hates the US. But one makes a living off of only writing negative things about his home country it does make one wonder… |
