I'm looking to order some figures from the UK and have them sent to Sweden. Order will be about 700 – 900 SEK in value.
I've heard there's been some large custom fees and VAT added to items. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks
Dan

You choose a supplier which has the OSSs system, so that the vat is paid in UK directly. Then the should be no problem.
To denmark i have used Perry, Caliver books and Wargames Atlantic.

Not Sweden but Spain but will at least give you some idea. There is no duty payable, but VAT, or equivalent, at the rate charged in your country, around 20 to 25% of value. You will also have to pay a handling fee which is a set by delivery company.

If the company is VAT registered in UK they can send it VAT free, So the difference in price depends on local VAT plus handling.

If OCCS registered then they charge the rate of VAT in your country.

Hope that clears things a bit

Dan,

I am also Swedish and have bought a lot from both EU and outside EU. Unless the VAT is charged in the UK under the IOSS system you will be charged by the Swedish customs with a fixed fee of 75kr+25% of the value+freight cost. Some traders like Northstar are not using IOSS but dedict the VAT since it is export but others do not. Read the shipping policy carefully…

The VAT is not the problem, the cost of handling is. I ordered about thirty British Pounds worth from Steve Barber, the – Dutch – handling costs were about twelve British pounds, creating a price rise of thirty percent !

Porthos, I think you are not correct.
The twelve pounds is Dutch VAT (21%) plus handling costs which is € 3.50 or € 7 depending if you pick it up at the post office or let it deliver. But often it is simply € 7.
PS, sorry to highjack the swedish question

Thanks for the information. It seems a bit of a guess as to what the final cost will be.
