What's the practice here? Sailors have referred to their Captains as "The Old Man" forever.

Will that carry over, or will they say "The Old Girl?" "Old Woman?" Just so it's never "The Old B----!"

Inquiring minds want to know….

If they're smart they'll go with "Skipper".

I have two grown daughters, I would never wish combat on them. As for this new Captain, I hope she does her crew & ship proud.

I wish the new CAPT good luck and may she be a good leader & skipper. I don't care about sex, or race … I care about those in command can do the job. I think she will do very well.

I'm for women in many branches. However, IMO, the don't need to be in the Infantry, Tanks, FA, CEs, Man-packed ADA …

Agree with all you say here. I have no children [AFAIK?]. But as a Rifle Plt Ldr, Section Ldr, Mech Co. Cdr., etc., I had many other peoples' children in my care, responsibility, etc. I took that very seriously…

And this is the first woman to command a warship from another time, U.S.S. Constitution.

I salute both of the captains.

Yes, I did 23&me … found out my cousin had a daughter he didn't know about. huh? He now sees her a few times a year. As she lives on the other side of the country.

But so far no one has claimed to be my "child" … and hope to keep it that way. However, I have many 2d-6th cousins on 23&Me. Last count was 1500 worldwide. huh?
