No one thought war was possible in 1914, either. My fear is someome makes a wrong move here, an uncertain response there, and blammo, you got a shootin' war that nobody wanted, but no one's gonna back down from. |

Very true … but 2022 is not 1914. E.g. no nukes, cruise missiles, drones, B-1s, CVNs, SSBNs, FFGs, etc. My thought is one of the jihadi mobs gets a hold of a Nuke. And uses it on the West/USA. Then all bets may be off? And the situation in A'stan maybe make this a bigger possibility? Does anyone double UBL/AQ, et al., or even Al Bagh Dadi/ISIS would not use a nuke or two if they had it. Both of them are dead now along with many, many of their followers/minions, etc. … but there is still a lunatic fringe out there. Most it appears in A'stan. |

That's strange, I was under the impression that war between the powers some time in the early C20th. was seen as inevitable -even desirable by some- It was just a question of when. |

Yes, as in WWI, then WWII … which some think WWII was just WWI with a 20 year break. The modern concept of MAD … made war between the 3 World Super Powers almost improbable, IMO. |

Well Armand, after reading this it looks like we have no chance against anyone in a non-nuclear war.
Assuming the scary but reality based concept of MAD holds, I agree with Legion. As long as no terror groups/rogue states get hold of of some sort of nuke capacity. |
