… To Taiwan "In December, two Chinese carrier battle groups went to sea simultaneously for the first time. They did so only weeks after the Chinese Navy's newest large helicopter carrier began its sea trials. These are major milestones for the PLA Navy, which is clearly advancing quickly in all respects. Yet they may be a red herring when it comes to the "the most dangerous place on the planet," as the Economist accurately described the Taiwan situation last year…" Main page link Armand

Maybe, but this article is from a politicized group funded by the Koch brothers group and connected to Rand Paul in support of the Former Guy. It basically stands for a reduced US military with new priorities and limited roles. The assessment here seemed to minimize the impact of control of the air, saying only that the Chinese have a lot of aircraft. It makes some interesting points, but it has an agenda beyond the topic here that makes me uncomfortable. and does not seem to offer much in the way of operational ideas for Taiwan or us in the actual current situation, unless I missed it. |

I would have thought their economic and cyber efforts would be the real threats. Or at least preliminary threats. |

Maybe, Tortorella, but I don't see that reflected in the article. Seems to make the point that Chinese conventional naval forces aren't really needed to invade Taiwan. I think that's correct but ignores the question of whether or not they could win in the long term. Supplying thousands of troops, even light special forces, means you've got to move a lot of heavy supplies. For that you need transport craft, which would be more vulnerable to US interdiction. |

Ha! That is great SB! Now I must pace the sideline in a rage! Will try for FG..IMO a large, well armed American military acts as a deterrent, which this group does not agree with. |

The PRC/CCP has a very big military and getting bigger by the day. Their Specs Ops are just one of "the Threats" they can employ. When was the last time their Spec Ops deployed and did "wet" work/missions ? |
