Ian is to receive a knighthood for services to online gaming but of course we know him for the Fighting Fantasy series of books and, the older ones amongst us, further back as the original co-owner of Games Workshop. In that rôle, he was the first importer of D&D into the UK, pre-dating Warhammer by many years – back then, GW, was mainly a retailer and importer. The last time I met up with him was at the Hay-on-Wye book festival some years ago. The lad's done well for himsel.😀 DBDD |

Well done to him. One of my favourite bosses 🙂 Ian |

I have never met him but the award seems very well deserved. He is a man that has achieved something, rather than someone who has held a nice government job. Congratulations to him. martin

I think this is influenced by his work with the Government (sorry martin!) where he took a role in developing a Skills strategy for on-line gaming under the Cameron government. Which presumably also explains Steve Jackson not getting a similar honour (i.e. it's not for founding GW!). But, it's nice to see where opening a gaming shop can take you…. |

Did Ian do editorials for Wargames Illustrated back in the day? As a naive American his name is familiar to me & I recall an Ian doing the editorial/forward in many an issue with his signature little cartoon man at the bottom. |
