Chinook is a superb helicopter!
Yes she is ! Used her to transport troops in my 101 Bn often back then, '80-'83.

Going thru Air Assault training, we had to climb up a linked aluminum troop ladder. Two hanging out the tail gate of the 47. While the CH-47 hovered 60-90ft., in the air. That ladder moved with the 47. You were looking up at the bird then down at the ground as you climbed. We were roped in fortunately.

Cool. My brother did that from helicopters (101st Air Cav.) and my kid sister's husband flew Chinooks for 12 years.

(101st Air Cav.)
You mean the 1st Air Cav ? The 101 was designated either an Airborne or Air Assault Div …

Similar missions but different units & TO&Es …

Yeah, all I know was they weren't airborne as he didn't do any parachute jumps like my old man did. The old man had a senior jump wings pin and a glider wings pin.

Its fun jumping out of a Scout, it wobbles around a bit more than a Chinook!

Tally Ho!

Sorry for hijacking your thread Valderian. Legion, he got it post war as far as I know. After he died my mom went through his stuff and put this together. He had more going by photos I've seen but this was all she could find. He served from 43 to 65.

WOW !!!! Thank you for sharing ! May he RIP. Yes, excuse me for high jacking this post Val. But before Air Assault Wings there were Glider Wings. Worth honoring this Infantry Warrior. He must have served in WWII & Korean War. Respect above & beyond.

When he got orders for Vietnam he decided it was time to retire.
