You were asked – TMP link Rate Yourself on Realism for Painting & Terrain 46% said "4: I go for realistic, but I don't spend 7-12 hours on any one piece of terrain, or mini." 34% said "3: I like GEtGW mini's painting, and terrain." 10% said: "2: I like a little color, and texture, on everything, minis and terrain."

I admit I am a bit late to the party here but I tend to go in the 4 to 5 range. I do spend a fair amount of time on my minis and terrain. Not 7 to 12 hours but probably more time than most people want to do for 6mm miniatures.
