"Paypal Money Request" Topic

I just received an email that says it is a money request that came through Paypal. It is supposedly from TMP Editor Ellah. I wondered if it was legitimate, if anyone else received a request like that?

I've never gotten a request from TMP. My membership just expires and then I renew at my leisure

I have info on your specific request, but:
There are a LOT of scams going around this time of year.
I've been getting text messages and emails, purportedly from AT&T, Cox Cable, Paypal and Amazon. Usually along the lines of, "Thanks for paying your bill, click here to claim your reward!"

My apologies. I did not know this was happening. Editor Ellah has been terminated.

Some have asked if this was a data breach, or if Ellah had access to TMP PayPal accounts. My understanding is that she was asking additional tips from people who had already given her tips directly. She had no access to any financial information at TMP, or to our official PayPal account.

Well if no harm was done and an acceptance and apology was given then a second chance should be given.
Also it's the season for forgiveness and new beginnings.

I agree with the above, please reinstate her. It was a mistake, and I feel Christmas is a time for forgiveness too!

I am all for forgiveness, but I expect Bill will do what is necessary. If you, Bill, have other reasons for the termination then so be it. It is not my call in any way.

It depends what has been done. What were the invoices for? Something the customer was going to benefit from? So maybe an early membership renewal or similar? If so, that's a legitimate request on behalf of the business, albeit mid-timed.

Alternatively, was this an employee using the data Bill holds about members to request charitable donations for themselves? That is not just a mistake, that's illegal and probably in breech of data protection legislation.
