I did not know the Johnny Weissmueller served in the USMC. Interesting that he is carrying a folding-stock paratrooper model carbine.

It's because he's a Para Marine on Guadalcanal, duh <grin>

Yes, IIRC, the USMC at that time had 2 Para Bns & 2 Raider Bns. IIRC 1 Para Bn & both Raider Bns were at Guadalcanal. IIRC, later in the war, '44(?). These units were disbanded and absorbed into other USMC units.
