They want to be a ritzy destination wedding site |

Yes I heard Double G will be booking his nuptials there. What a lucky girl. |

Yeah… the Wyndham (formerly Host) bears no resemblance to it's former self whatsoever. Although I'm sure the toxic mold sniffers will never let that go. Add to that the buildings foundation is fatally compromised and will be consumed by a giant sink hole in the very near future. Of course they also claimed that nobody would EVER renovate the Host… we see how that turned out. TRU |

Rusty, Does the Whyndam still have the foot masseuse gal on staff for such special events? TRU |

Destination wedding in Lancaster. Finding it hard to reconcile that notion. |

Re Lancaster weddings… I passed on attending a Lancaster wedding a lot of years ago. (Not at the Host) I didn't much care for the groom. I heard after that the reception ran for hours and disintegrated into something that would have made Caligula blush. A very proper coworker got hitched here in Baltimore. I found out later the honeymoon journeys first night was a short drive from Lancaster, in Intercourse. Oh, my… Re the Host renovations… Time will tell. I can't help think of the diminutive lady from Poltergeist,… "This house is clean." Hmmm? |

Last Kingdom… I got that. I hear intercourse is the destination of many a wedding night…… |

I'll make conventions at the Host--whatever they name it this week--as long as I have the stamina and money. The drive is feasible, I know the layout and I can get a room on-site. I'm glad the new owners updated the HVAC and suchlike. But whoever picked out the new carpet and wallpaper has a lot to answer for. |

Last two conventions at the Wyndham (nee Host) were great. The gaming areas were first rate, the rooms were very nice. I get the idea of not putting all your eggs in one basket though. At least some of the vendors have issues with that as well. |

@Piepenbrink And those yellow upholstered chairs…I think they were bought out of surplus from Masochist.com. |

Hey! With Cold Wars 2022 canceled … time to re-evaluate what spring convention you're attending! Have ya tried out MHWA's Huzzah!? In 2022 they are planning to expand it to 4 days! May 12th to May 15th. Huzzah! |

Huzzah!! Nice regional New England show. Best of luck this year. |

I don't remember any yellow upholstered chairs, but I do remember a pseudo-modern dark gray vibe everywhere. Still, I have to admit I like the place and would love to go back. Sigh. |

"Yes I heard Double G will be booking his nuptials there. What a lucky girl."………. LOL!! You murder me…………love ya man, hope to see you at a convention in 2022…..or 2023………..or 2024………….or…………….. |

"Huzzah!! Nice regional New England show. Best of luck this year."……… I've never attended, but yes, I've heard it's a nice little regional show. Maybe this is the way forward, more smaller, regional shows vs three large shows "somewhere on the East Coast/wherever it lands, someone won't be happy"……………. |
| Rustycop Retired 2019 | 16 Dec 2021 4:06 p.m. PST |
Double G there are plenty of regional shows already in place. Local clubs and branches of hmgs run them. I personally would love to travel to Hurricon take in the show and visit Mickey Mouse. Guys went to Nashcon they had a great time. Williamsburg Muster another good one. Hawks do Barrage. Siege of Augusta another. I'm really looking forward to Historicon this summer. The location is awesome. Marriott…enough said. Fall in and Cold Wars will get back on track. You'll see me soon and we'll break bread. |

The MHWA's Huzzah! has steadily gotten bigger and bigger. Going to four days puts it among few that are at such a length. The bigger it gets, the more it will provide. YouTube link |

I've begun to wonder if boutique gaming cons are the future. A few years ago, I attended and GM a game at SCRUMCON. SCRUMCON is located in the Washington/Maryland suburbs. The first year it was small but hit the max number of attendees. The limit was more along the line of fire regulations. The second year was a little bigger but still stayed with the original framework of a limited number of games and but expanded. COVID impacted the potential third-year event. I agree that clubs running smaller cons mixed with bigger events like Fall In etc, are the future. |

The best ideas are often hybrid/combinations of good but not great ideas. HMGS should—period, end the discussion—run at least a couple, if not all three, of the traditional big historical miniatures-focused conventions. That shouldn't be on the table, because I think an actual vote of membership to preserve Historicon and at least one other big HMGS con would run over 90%. Maybe a good idea would be to piggyback specialized/smaller cons onto existing non-historical conventions. In other words, rather than HMGS creating and running a freestanding AmRev focused smaller convention, just run that at Origins, or GenCon, or some other multi-gaming convention (I don't know what the bigger non-historical cons are in northeast). That way HMGS avoids the headache of finding a venue and arranging contracts and deposits—they just need to recruit GM's and help them get registered and receive complementary table space, I played in a couple of historical games at Origins this year, and the tables were placed near the entrance to the main gaming and dealer hall. Tremendous visibility. If HMGS helped coordinate a dozen or two games at some of these bigger cons, it would do more to possibly grow the hobby than anything we could do ourselves at a standalone convention. |

Y'all just let me know if you want me to look around Waco for a possible venue and date. I might be able to swing something with Chip and JoJo for the wives. They also sponsor an annual marathon run which might make for an interesting thinning of the herd. :-) |

Years ago, the Dulles Expo Center was considered. I was out there today for a train show. Scratch that site off the list. Between the horrendous DC traffic to get there, small parking lot that was full, noise, hard concrete floors – just ugh. |

Back when there were two Toy Soldier stores in new England, Bath Maine and Newburyport Mass. Peter Rice who owned the one in Bath and I and my partner Ray would each hold 2 conventions a year. Three months apart so one every season. Maine was called Maine Con and Newburyport was called Wargamers Weekend. Smallish affairs maybe 200 peeps but fun. |
