I wonder why Blogger did that? Normally it saves stuff I upload onto blogposts as JPGs, no drama.

I added another one as a test, confirmed it was as a JPG with appropriate extension, but same thing. Strange.

Ah okay, it seems that Google have messed around with the urls and they no longer have the jpg file extension…

Open the pic in another tab and then save the image location.
