Today's post offers a glimpse of the Saxons and though they would eventually be conquered by Charlemagne, during the reign of Charles Martel, they suffered the attention of several punitive expeditions.

Lacking a centralised governing body, sub-tribes and clans were not averse to undertake independent action to raid or even occupy Frankish land.
