At the time of the WSS there seem to be two basic styles of headgear for grenadiers. At the risk of sounding a bit rude, one style I will call "stiff", and the other is characteristically "limp", meaning that the hat bag hang down the back or to the side. It seems the limp grenadier caps were more typical, so the question remains: which British regiments had the stiff mitres?

So far, I have read that the 1st Foot Guards and the Royal Irish (18th) wore the stiff grenadier caps. Were there others as well? Or is it that certain regiments wore both depending on the year or the current colonel's preference?

Cheers!
