Tankers, Grunts, etc. all must have been very "challenging". To say the least.

The Marine LVT-4 Amtrack had a fuel tank in the bottom of the hull. Not good when hitting a mine. The solution against mines was to put sandbags over the floor and the troops to ride on the top. I guess it's better than walking, unless you were the driver.

The .50cal in the cupola was a POS. It was mounted sideways to have a lower silhouette and because of that the belt did not feed straight and frequently jammed.

The searchlight was awesome and could burn your retina if you looked into it. You could bounce it off low hanging clouds for indirect lighting of an area.

Too bad about the LTV-4's .50 cal. It is a great weapon … Had 14 or 15 of them in my M113 Mech Co.

Sorry, that was the .50cal on the M48 cupola.

Thanks for the correction …

This, and the fact that was a really big target, made the israelis remove it from their M48s. A remote controlled system would've resolved the problem, but the technology was too young.

Yes, the tech isn't there yet … but seems both Russia and the PRC are working on it in earnest. If the USA is it is very classified I've imagine … ?
