With more than 25 copies of Bills, Bows and Bloodshed 2.2 now in circulation (after Salute) I am just starting to get some player feed-back. So far this has been positive, two clear suggestions being made. I welcome house rules and I will publish these in due course.

The primary idea received, so far, is that if any 12 module unit is reinforced by more modules from the reserve, that reinforcement counts towards the unit's 50% status. If a unit is reduced to 50% of its original strength this turn it does not take a 50% morale test if there are also reinforcement modules present in the unit. As written, the unit DOES test at 50% but merely gets a +1 on the roll for the presence of the reinforcements. I am considering this and may add it as an optional.

Copies of BBB 2.2 will be at Warfare 2021 with Dave Lanchester Books. Each is supplied in a plastic zip-loc bag for neatness but there is now a display copy available for people to read. I have now added sample pages to the e-bay listing.

Can you describe a bit more about the rules; the intended scale, unit size etc please Barry?

@Atheling:
The rules have been well discussed elsewhere so I do not want to come across as a bore.

Short version is that they suit all figure scales from 6mm to 28mm mounted on the 40mm wide bases of the DBA/DBM/DBMM/DBR variety or the 30mm wide bases of Bloody Barons. I designed them in terms of bases (I call them modules in the game) and I wanted to appeal to players who do not want to re-base. For 28mm figures I suggest doubling the moves and ranges and using 60mm wide bases.

The rules are intended for big battles, not skirmishes, and one of these can be played through in about three to four hours. Typical retinues are 10 to 12 modules (bases) of bill and bow, pike, spear, etc while cavalry and skirmishers use units of 3 to 5 modules. For a good game you will need at least 4 big units each side plus supporting smaller units.

The rules include a detailed army list for the so-called Wars of the Roses and a six-page article on livery colours and identification based on the list which I produced for the Lance and Longbow Society many years ago and which has been repeated on TMP several times.

Detailed discussion is here:

and there are pictures and page samples on e-bay currently.
