"I will only briefly come back to the story of the battle, BAZAINE and his army retreat towards Metz then continue to regain the Chalon camp. At the outlet of Metz, they meet the first German troops who have already shot them. It follows a battle of meeting, Rezonville / Mars la Tour, where the French, although in numerical superiority, do not push their advantage. They repositioned themselves the next day behind the first battlefield, on a north-south line covering the west of Metz. The new battlefield stretches from the north, the village of ST Privas, to the south to the village of Rozerieulles. The Germans were able to bring back enough troops unlike the day before and no less than 8 army corps, including the Prussian Royal Guard, will face the 5 French corps including the Imperial Guard…"
