It's early fall. Time for some practice games for HMGS's Historicon convention.
It's Alexander the Great vs Gaul in this L'Art de la Guerre game.

Fun choice of armies and your report style makes the game easy to follow. Extra shout out for the dead elephant graphics!

Thank you. The dead figures are courtesy of Jolly Blackburn, the artist/publisher of the very long running comic, Knights of the Dinner Table. The comic is about players of a D&D style game, Hackmaster, and is very funny.

After creating a few hundred of these things I like to think I have it down pat.
I shoot the photographs from left to right, usually 3 per half turn, adjusted if required. To keep consistency for the reader.
The pictures are all sized the same, 1280x960, for a unified fit and finish.
I'll take other pictures, which are not published, to act as notes for the right up. Most common is a single die marking the turn number.
I do leave some ambiguities in place, and let the readers develop the story in their mind.
Because in the end, it is more about the story, and not some circles and arrows battle reports.
That is one of the reasons for naming the commanders. I don't do anything, Larry, the character does. He makes the brilliant play and you cheer. Darryl does something stupid and we chuckle.
My opponent is never ridiculed, even if he offers me a game winning opportunity. He's just a guy playing a game, and to use my soap box to ridicule is just bullying and not fun.
Me on the other hand, am fair game. I can be the fool when deserved.
