I am not sure this is the proper board to post this query or not, but here goes. As a teen I was a big Advanced Squad Leader buff. After high school I joined the US Army and went into Special Forces. After my six year enlistment, my mom cleaned out all my books & games I had for she figured I would not need them any more. Over the years I replaced most of the lost books, but never the ASL games for I did miniatures gaming after that. I recently saw two guys playing ASL and it got the bug back into the back of my mind. When I saw what the games are now going for, I was shocked. I went to ebay and I should have been more careful and purchased a used starter set that the seller stated he felt was complete. When it arrived the counters were not even ASL counters but from some Panzer Genadier game. Any one know of a site that I could download ASL counters for I had heard to avoid some company call Critical Hit for counters? I thank you for your time and help in advance. I must say, that I wish my mom had not cleaned out my stuff for I would not pay what folks are asking for a $40.00 USD game I paid for back in the day that is not made of gold but paper and cardboard.

Good luck. Even loose ASL counters go for insane prices on Ebay. It's not a game, it's a cult.

You can some times find images on places like Boardgamegeek if you will print your own

…and it can't hurt to see if MMP has some they could sell you…

Yea, just print your own.

Or use minis, GHQ did sell 'Squad Leader' minis back in the day.

Or you could play it on the computer using Vassal

I totally feel your pain. The secondary market is a big issue, at least for me, getting into or maintaining a specific game system.

I also was intrigued by ASL back in the day (big SL fan – the original) but the cost at that time turned me off and it has only climbed since then. Way out of my price point so I gave on ever getting into it.

Good Luck.

Just start out with the ASL starter kits. While they may be out of stock temporarily, the four basic sets are usually available and you can pick them up sometimes for $20 USD-40 each. They're a good way to get into the "new" Squad Leader system, which is more work than some gamers would like!

They have committed to keeping the Starter Kits in print, and each of the #1-4 kits are self contained, so one being out of stock doesn't mean you can't play another. Do NOT pay exorbitant Ebay prices for a Starter kit!

All of the production and shipping delays make keeping games in print at the moment more difficult, so things are delayed more than usual.

Gamesquad.com has a good ASL forum, and DesperationMorale.com is THE site that has reviews of practically every single ASL product by every single publisher, which is a tremendous resource.

The parent company is MMP

Muli-Man Publishing. Not long ago changed their website to:
mmpgamers.com

Avalon Hill has long been gone eaten up by TSR then Hasbro.
But ASL is still going very strong.

A printed copy of the rules alone will cost $75 USD
So it is not a cheap game.

If you do not need physical parts, there is an On-Line game of it called VASL
vasl.info

And the rules are available in digital form:

There are many fan sites and vendors.
Beyond those above look at:
aslscenarioarchive.com

There are so many 3rd-Party sources and so many editions of the modules, it is very confusing.
This Wiki will help you gain insight to core parts:

Critical makes good counters. If you sign up for their emails. You will get a discount code. I'm in the middle of buying their new Giantin counters. If you pre-order they are a good deal. link

PM me I will give you more info. Ray runs a great company. Plus they keep you from ordering the same item again with an email.
