I'm thinking of giving 2 nephews an intro to Naval Gaming with Jutland and some of the other smaller battles from WW1. They have only ever played 40k based games and table-top non mini games. Is there an easy or on the easier side game that would work as a good introduction both to historical gaming and naval gaming? Thanks for any tips. PS…the game need not be a mini game. Cardboard counters would actually be preferable. |

Dreadnought by Ben King is fast and fun and very easy to teach. Here is a summary of them I wrote: link I'm sure you can find some print and play counters to use instead of minis? Also, the Great War at Sea game series has a Jutland game (from Avalanche Press) |

Junior General website. The rules even have a link to paper ship markers that can be used. Easy to understand and implement which can then lead to more detail later. link |

Thank you for reminding me about Avalanche Press. I don't have any experience with their games but If I recall correctly their Jutland box includes a Russian fleet which expands the number and types of scenarios I can play. |

At the risk of being accused of blowing my own trumpet the One Hour WW1 Naval Warfare Rules come complete with a mini Jutland scenario and the whole thing fits on one page – available free in the files area of AMW and Other Neil Thomas Wargames Rules on Groups.io: link |

The original Avalon Hill Jutland game! You can still get it from Noble Knight for not too much money. link |

We've used the Avalon Hill "Jutland" game rules with 1:6000 scale miniature ships that were mounted directly on the game counters. They play very quickly and are easy to learn. link link Jim |

There is David Manley's Si Vis Pacem link It is a good fast-play set of rules. He also has a supplement for Jutland called Clash of Giants, but you don't need that to play Jutland. There are several people that make revamped counters from the Avalon Hill game (https://www.ebay.com/itm/164644418371?hash=item2655927343:g:En8AAOSwr2BgAGHH) You could also look at Topside miniatures. You can get a PDF version of the Jutland ships here (https://topsideminis.com/product/jutland-battle-set-pdf/) |

I use Si Vis Pacem with Topside miniatures. They work well together. |

Topside are awesome! I love using them. I use MJ12's Grand Fleets with King & Kaiser supplement. Demo is free. I'm a simple gamer. mj12games.com/grandfleets |
