I will be giving a lecture on the Herero War of 1904 at the HMGS War College on Saturday at Historicon 2021, and I will be running Herero War and Nama War games on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. For more details, go to: hererowars.com .

These games are great, and if I recall, attended one of his talks a few years back, very interesting and informative.

Roy, some of the things I miss about not living out east… are your Herero games and talks. Best, Bill

Thanks, GamesPoet. Actually, my talk on Saturday was my first HMGS War College lecture.

Thanks a lot, Bill. If you're on a visit to the East Coast, of course I'd love to have you in my games. In addition to the HMGS conventions and the NOVAG game days, I now run games at Barrage as well.

So, my Herero War lecture went incredibly well. There were lots of questions and audience engagement. And after the lecture, people came up to me to tell me that they really enjoyed the talk and learned a lot about the Herero War.

My two Herero War games also went incredibly well: the players had a lot of fun, and all the different historically-derived options, surprises, etc., that add those extra layers of fidelity and fun to the Herero War scenarios came into play.

The players also enjoyed the Nama War Battle of Seatsub camel scenario I ran. I spent a lot of time on developing the camel movement and camel recon spotting mechanics, and they worked very well.

Eric Alvarado and I will be getting together in person in the next few weeks to do some intense brainstorming and scenario development for the Nama Wars book.

I showed up for the scheduled talk this past Saturday (my recall of a previous one was probably before one of your games that I played in previously, believe I played in two or three over the years, always enjoyable), however there was a lecture on Space Wars. I did a double take, looked at the time and schedule, and not sure what happened. I am still perplexed.

rjones6917 Nov 2021 8:26 a.m. PST

GamesPoet,

The War College lectures fell an hour behind schedule, so my 2:00 PM talk was pushed back to 3:00 PM. I didn't discover the talks were behind schedule until I showed up for my 2:00 lecture and saw the Space Force talk going on. Frank Luberti, Director of the HMGS War College at Historicon 2021, did a great job in helping the lecture speakers adapt to the schedule change.

I'm so sorry you missed my talk. In the future, I'll give my email out when announcing talks on TMP and on my hererowars.com website. That way, people can contact me in real-time if there's been some delay.

I will be giving future HGMS War College talks on Herero War and Nama War topics. Hopefully, you'll be able to make one of those.

Ah, a bummer to have missed this one. However, I will keep an eye out for future talks.

Last time I saw you at one of the HMGS conventions, before the public health issue started, mentioned I'd purchased your Herero War publication. Have begun reading through it from time to time, great stuff!

Plan to likely purchase some figures from Recreational Conflict. Found a dozen of loose figures at this Historicon 2021, that may not be Hereros, but might fit in for the purpose. Their always in hiding, so no one can see them anyway. ; )

So this is starting in slow motion for me, but it's happening … lol. Still interested in doing terrain for the Germans-in-a-train scenario at some point. That game was such a hoot.

By the way, realize you're using modified TSATF, although I'm considering using the rules called, "The Men Who Be Kings". Not sure how adaptable that system is, yet it seems like the scenarios can be used for various rule systems.
