This is the day my dog hates most.

Daylight savings, fall back an hour, means that she thinks it is dinner time, yet there is one more hour to go.

I keep getting the sad eyes and poked with the wet nose, as she can't tell time, but her internal clock says feed me.

So sad.

Zephyr107 Nov 2021 3:21 p.m. PST

Feed her a half hour early for a few days. It eases them into the time change…

Grelber07 Nov 2021 3:22 p.m. PST

I got nose-poked this morning because I wasn't getting up on time.

Dog being fed, liked the 1/2 hour thing.

Thresher0107 Nov 2021 4:19 p.m. PST

Can't blame her.

I used to feed my little girl twice a day, since she would get the shakes sometimes if I didn't do that. I suspect she was diabetic, or pre-diabetic.

That seemed to make the day work out a lot better for her.

You can do half and half, or 1/3rd and 2/3rds, if you want to try that.

My two beast get breakfast and dinner and snacks several times a day. Can't resist the sad eyes and tail wagging. Get great joy at keeping my beasts happy. Time change didn't matter though.

Jeffers08 Nov 2021 4:44 a.m. PST

Labradors do that 24/7.

We don't change the periodicity of feeding for the animals. We just change how it correlates with the clock.

Yep, not my favorite either as care giver to Aussies Rusty and Lola

Yup my dog Goose gave me the sad eye look for breakfast early Sunday. Wasn't happy for the wait but he survived. Labs aren't the only ones, Jeffers, my greyhound is a pro at the sad eyes look.

My dog died on September 23rd. Enjoy your pups, guys. They are a gift sent from heaven.

So true Choctaw, Goose is our 8th dog. (We were going to change his name to Henry but he was 2.5 yrs old when we got him).

Howler08 Nov 2021 7:09 p.m. PST

Sorry for your loss Choctaw. IMO, it's near the top of hardest things to go through. My Westie is 17 and not in the best of health. Know it's coming, wish it wouldn't.

Cry every time and it takes time for me to recover enough to decide to get another. Luckily, at my present age, my rescue 4 year old has a good chance of outliving me. Then she can do the crying (smile).

I heard said:

The only problem with dogs is their lives are too short.

You know the heartache that is coming when they are gone, but it is worth it for the happiness you give each other while together.

My rescue just turned 7, very healthy and full of energy. The terror of every squirrel, chipmonk and rabbit in the back yard.

Took awhile, but she learned to stay away from the "black and white" kitties, ie: skunks, but she learned.

Funny, my dogs are the same exact way with their internal clocks.

Same with my Border Terriers. They're both 11 but still very agile. My female is all speed and my male is the cutter. They pack killed 2 squirrels and a rabbit chasing them down over the last couple of years – the rabbit about 2 months ago. Not a fan of them killing but not a lot I can do once they take off.

A friend was concerned that her Cat might be getting 'overfed'.
I pointed out that NO Cat is EVER overfed!

At least, in Cat's mind. lol.

Most domesticated dogs eat until the food is gone. Most domesticated cats eat until they are full. Mind you "full" is different than "eaten an appropriate amount".
