"Okay, you just want to play the latest computer wargame. Well, it can be a blast, whether it's a flight simulator (just don't strafe the guys in chutes), a first-person shooter, or even just a simulation of a battle. But there are a bunch of wargames you've probably ignored. Yeah, those miniatures rules. It seems antiquated in this day and age when you can immerse yourself into a game on your computer, but don't knock those paper rules. In fact, just as cluster bombs have got JDAMs beat in under appreciated ways, miniatures rules have computer games beat in ways you may not appreciate. Let's take a look…" Main page link Armand

I would say just the personal interaction with others in the best. Had a great Halloween game yesterday with 3 friends. |

Lead or plastic toy soldiers do not become obsolete because their operating systems are no longer supported; they never 'crash' if you don't drop them. As long as you are content to deploy them on the tabletop, they will serve you faithfully, and can be passed on to your children and grandchildren. If they become a little battered and their paint is chipped, you can repair/repaint them without having to be a Microsoft Certified Engineer or similar. |

Computer games can be great but they're no substitute for physical miniatures in my opinion. There's something immensely satisfying about collecting and painting armies, and creating the terrain they fight over. For me it's like I'm creating my own little world |

If the power goes out, you can still play a miniatures game by candlelight… ;-) |

You can't high-five a computer. On the other hand, the computer won't argue rules with you. |

"On the other hand, the computer won't argue rules with you." I've run across some computer games that will cheat. Not much you can do when you catch them… ;-) |

The AI on a computer is pathetic. If you want a decent opponent skilled in the are of deception, bluff and skill you need a real person, skilled in the art. Even multi player games rarely achieve these dizzy heights. |
