For the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge this year I'm going to be speed painting a Thematic Byzantine Cavalry Based army with Khazar Allies. They will be the bog standard Khazar Steppe Nomad Archer as opposed to the Nobility.

It's a bit of a journey back into the past as the army will be primarily painted up for Warhammer Ancient Battles (V.2) and is intended for an event I hope to attend next year.

I realise it is mostly elite, which was deliberate, as I have other painting commitments for a display game later next year which will of course take precedence.

Looking forward to seeing the finished army and your interpretation of speed painting grin

Byzantine military handbooks felt it was perfectly reasonable to field an all cavalry army.

Agree with Huscarle.

My only concern with all-cav armies is the table big enough to use them properly?

It's kind of obvious but all depends on what it is I'm painting. I once speed painted 36 Beja in a few days. They were mostly flesh tones and not much else.

Indeed. I think it very much depends on the rules and in WAB V.2, cavalry is over pointed (IMHO) and has lost all the advantages except one it gained with the Beyond the Golden Gate supplement. I expect I'll be onto a hiding hiding for nothing but at least it will be fun to roll some dice again and paint up an army that's been on my radar for two decades.

I'm almost positive that the answer will be no! LOL
