"Some of the best thriller movies are the ones that have submersible vessels as the central theme of their plotlines. Also, since submersibles are majorly used as naval vessels, such submarine movies veer mostly towards war-time drama or fictional recounting of two opposing countries facing off against each other. Many such movies have been created and appreciated by the global audience. Each movie is a stand-alone and represents the best directorial and acting talent available in Hollywood…" Main page link Armand |

I've seen most on the list as well, though a few I've never heard of before, so will have to search those out. I really enjoyed "The Bedford Incident" – gives a nice feel for Cold War era naval encounters and ops. I only enjoyed the first few minutes of Hunter Killer, which is a real shame. I had a lot of hope for that one. To tie this to naval wargaming, many/most of the Cold War scenarios shown in the various movies can be played out with the free, Conn Sonar rules, available from the Facebook page by the same name. They can be found in the files section of the group. There are lots of great photos ot models and miniatures there too. Some people even use 1/700th scale models for their games, as well as smaller scales too. The rules are set up to permit you to games the last few minutes/seconds of naval vessel combat, and include rules for sub-to-sub, ASW, and anti-ship combat. There are also rules for permitting the use of helos and aircraft too. |
