I see that one well-known gaming figure is considering cancelling his events because not enough people have signed up, and says he might attend as a spectator rather than run a game.

Anybody else running into the same problem, or not?

redbanner414526 Oct 2021 2:42 p.m. PST

I'm a game master but couldn't figure out how to register to play in any games.

Rotundo26 Oct 2021 4:49 p.m. PST

Yes, me. I had two sign ups. I think I will "soldier on" though.

Rotundo, what games are you hosting? I will sign up once I know what my schedule is. If it doesnt conflict. I am sure you will get some walk ons too.

Rotundo26 Oct 2021 5:46 p.m. PST

Battle of the Bulge game. 5pm to 10 pm Friday night. We did scale down to one table. Just the Bastogne portion. I am involved in all of the WAMP games in some manner. Support, or player, depending on what is needed. We will be in the main Ballroom. The name escapes me right now.

I will tell my buddy Angelo about it too. He loves WWII gaming.

1) I need to sign up
2) figure out how to register for games

Rotundo27 Oct 2021 2:05 a.m. PST

Thank you. I appreicate it. A cordial on me!!!

How are you seeing how many signed up for your game?

Martyn K27 Oct 2021 9:21 a.m. PST

On-line you can see if a game is full or not when you go to the list for signing up for the games. There is no way to see on line the exact number of people signed up if it is not full. I suspect that you have to know someone who knows someone to get this type of information.

For interest I counted up quickly how many games there are and how many of full (it was quick count so I may be out by one or two). Here are the numbers:

Wednesday – 1 full out of 1 games (100% full)
Thursday – 43 full out of 103 games (42% full)
Friday – 46 full out of 157 games (29% full)
Saturday – 50 full out of 138 games (36% full)
Sunday – 4 full out of 6 games (67% full)

I have no idea how this compares to previous years, but to me this seems like this is not too bad given the difficult circumstances.
There are going to be more sign ups between now and the convention, also people will sign up for games when they get there. Admittedly there will be some drop outs as well.
Also, just because a game is not full, it does not mean that no-one has signed up. Many games could be almost full.
I remain optimistic about the convention – it is not all doom and gloom.

I am also pleased that one of my two games is full with 8 players. My larger game, the battle of Bicocca is for 10 players and still has some availability. This is a large 28mm Italian Wars game with about 1600 figures. So while I am here I am going to shamelessly promote it with a few pictures. The game is on Friday morning, so feel free to sign up and move some pike blocks and Gendarmes around.

Looks super Martyn. Best of luck to you and all who attend Historicon.

I am still on the fence about going, but I haven't cancelled my game yet. If there is a sudden surge in the area I'm out. I won't be registering for any games. I have a feeling it will be pretty easy to walk around and fill in where needed.

Rotundo27 Oct 2021 2:07 p.m. PST

I will be helping Martyn with his game.

TSD101 – what game(s) are you hosting?

Great looking game Martyn.

Martyn … that does look grand, congrats!

That does look amazing Martyn!

FWIW, I would bet folding money that most of those Thu-Fri-Sat games will proceed just fine even if they're not at full capacity. Experienced GMs make design allowances for not getting the perfect number of people (not to mention getting less than perfect people).

This year my cousin and I are running Frostgrave back to back on Saturday. My game is S18:624. Since I have already done all the prep work (terrain, pulling warbands, printing sheets) and he has committed, his game will be run and in the event I am not there I can rope him into running the second game as well since it will already be set up and he just has to move figures back to their starting positions.

I signed up and purchased a full weekend pass a few weeks ago. Now I want to go back to reserve my spot in some games and it doesn't seem possible without buying a ticket. Surely they don't expect someone to figure out all of that in one go at the time of purchase. Am I missing something?

Martyn K28 Oct 2021 11:49 a.m. PST

If you already purchased a ticket go to the following page:
hmgs.org/mpage/HCReg

(Make sure that you are logged into your HMGS account)

Click register.

It should then show a green box saying you already registered. Press the green register box.
It will then say attention – already registered. Press modify an existing registration.

There are then two parts attendee information and attendee selections. Click on attendee selections. You can then select the games you want – remember to save when you are done.

Hope this helps

Still couple weeks to go but not seeing any mandatory masks to get into stores here, no Vax passport stuff to hear of.

47Ronin28 Oct 2021 12:25 p.m. PST

Great pictures, Martyn K.

Enjoy your game.

shaneypops28 Oct 2021 1:10 p.m. PST

@Martyn K thank you, sir, that worked!

I just signed up yesterday with no issues. I will say a lot of the games are marked as full.

14Bore30 Oct 2021 7:55 a.m. PST

Finally signed up for Saturday, have yet to figure out how to sign up for games ever.

TRUgamer Supporting Member of TMP31 Oct 2021 6:20 a.m. PST

14Bore,
Martyn K pretty much spelled out the process. I long for the day that we migrate to a better designed and more intuitive user interface. The current member interface stinks on ice.

Martyn,
Your game looks glorious… best of luck running your games!

Still not getting sign up, on page see game to commit to and that's the end. Definitely not friendly
