So I posted this idea on the now defunct PK yahoo group, where you take the basics of PK and skin them as 40k. Mass battles in the grimdark universe. I'll come up with my notes for this and see if we can make this gameable. |

Decision dice by troops, possibly copied off WW2 armies! Sounds like a fun idea, especially if you set the space marines and Emperor as being the Nazis of the 40k universe. The best decision dice, most activations and the best equipment. But ultimately fighting a losing battle. Orks could be modeled as the Soviet forces, with blunt force applied on every front and tactics being very basic. Poor leadership and low activation count. UK/US Army/Paratroops as Cadian army. Some special commands like rangers, paratroops and commandos. Tons of armor and good infantry. Average decision die. I'll check out if I can find my "special character" unit notes somewhere. That would be next! |

Found the hero rules: Apparently they had been posted here earlier? Maybe the search doesn't work. I played around with "hero" -rules for my fantasy games IIRC, and I gave them magical abilities with a point -based buying system (it had stuff that could be rolled with a D20!), but they would be overwhelming if limited to only one side of the conflict. Heroes would roll around the battlefield, trying to rally disorganized and fleeing troops, and use a magical ability every once in a while. They could attach themselves to troops and work as reinforced morale boosters (less Disorder taken). One factor for space marines (they always have special case rules) would be to give them d6 to d8 armor saves vs. other infantry fire, despite them being in the open (power armor). Try powerful units would have attack dice of d12 to d20 to reflect their overwhelming battlefield effect. |

There is still an active PK IO group. |
