Is anyone able to compare the original edition of Laurence Spring, The Bavarian Army During the Thirty Years War, (Helion 2017) to the recently released second edition? I have a copy of the former and am debating whether to also purchase the newer version.

Helion's description of the new book states it has an additional 40 pages which appear to include 16 new pages of colour plates and about twice as many illustrations as the first edition.

However, I am especially interested if, or to what extant, the original chapter on tactics (pp. 100-121) has been revised.

Maybe you can contact Helion about this?

Might I suggest joining the C17TH wargaming group on Facebook? Not everyone's cup of tea but Charles Singleton (series editor) posts there

Thanks for the replies.

I've decided to not buy the 2nd edition of Bavarian book and went for Spring's book on White Mountain and the new book on Nördlingen instead.

I will look into the FB group.

@Ryan T – I do not have the original but the second edition is a complete rework of the initial book. Pages 105 to 131 are on Tactics. I would recommend you also pick up The Battle of Nordlingen, In The Emperor's service, The Battle of White Mountain and The New Knights (The Development of Cavalry in Western Europe, 1562 to 1700) with pages 13 to 207 (out of 232 pages) covering the period you are after.
