link Heh heh heh. The more "educated" you are -- i.e. the more time spent in academia -- the LESS tolerant of conflicting opinions you are. From that right-wing rag THE ALANTIC. In general, the most politically intolerant Americans, according to the analysis, tend to be whiter, more highly educated, older, more urban, and more partisan themselves. This finding aligns in some ways with previous research by the University of Pennsylvania professor Diana Mutz, who has found that white, highly educated people are relatively isolated from political diversity. They don't routinely talk with people who disagree with them; this isolation makes it easier for them to caricature their ideological opponents. (In fact, people who went to graduate school have the least amount of political disagreement in their lives, as Mutz describes in her book Hearing the Other Side.) By contrast, many nonwhite Americans routinely encounter political disagreement. They have more diverse social networks, politically speaking, and therefore tend to have more complicated views of the other side, whatever side that may be. |

Legion, I was not freaked out by your reaction as a vet, you framed yourself as such and that I get. Others took a different tone. I can't put my finger on it. The leadership was a train wreck. But it was clear to me that it was about imcompetence. You sold me on holding Bagram, after I initially felt the casualties would not be worth it. Incompetence yes, Lack of personal integrity or treason, no. It was hard to take. Well I appreciate your candor without being divisive, etc. Yes, again based on my experience & training, I think my comments on this are sound. I just don't know who thought abandoning BAF, not telling our NATO Allies and not evacing civils before leaving BAF ? Was a good, idea … ? I don't think any of our military leadership would have thought or recommended that. It should have been held, and the US landed 5800 to Kabul. Would have been better to have held BAF then land those US troops there. Plus NATO still had about 7000 troops on the ground. Plus some ANA & ANP of questionable value ? Regardless whoever made these bad decisions, was beyond incompetent, capable, etc.
Which is what leads directly to old white men complaining that they are the victims. I find very few old white men or of any race, color, etc., that believe they are "victims". Maybe I'm just hanging around with a tough bunch. 😁 Mostly blue collar guys and gals(!) plus some Vets who worked hard all their lives. Never heard anyone mention being a victim. Because none of us are … You only become a victim if you say & believe you are. Frakk whatever others say or think. I turned 75 today Wow … you are old. But Happy B-Day pops ! 😎 |

Ha! I'm "Wow" old too Legion. I am retired. I have seen some things. Some wars are fought everyday. I'm no victim. I made my choices. I don't hang with any victims. I have seen plenty of bad leaders, ideas, motives. Good ones are like gold when you work for the government. I enjoy some debate, but I am not big on some kinds of trash talk anymore. I want a little peace and I want the country to stay in one piece. I did not come all this way for nuthn'. |

Jamemurp: Well that certainly got political quickly. Repressive tolerance… lovely. Marcuse would have been proud. It seems liberalism is truly dead. I don't think we have any basis for a discussion. You exhibit the very thing of which I write. Joe Collins |

Joe, right, it is simply two different ideas of reality. No common ground from which to discuss. |
