For those who are using a compressor for airbrushing this may be helpful. I had a Badger "hobby" compressor and changed to a small garage style from Menard's (like home depot, probably regional for the midwest) but both of these were pretty loud (loud = not going to run it at 9pm or when the house has sleeping people in it). I found one for $129 USD from California Air Tools, model 1P1060S, 0.6hp, 1.0 steel gallon tank. Best of all: 56db! It's quieter than my spraybooth exhaust and about as loud as a refrigerator motor running. Tank filled up pretty fast and has suction feet to slow down the compressor hop around.

That's very good to know. I'm looking to upgrade my compressor.

It's available from Amazon with free shipping for Prime members. I just ordered it for about $130 USD with tax included.

I have an Iwata compressor that is very quiet. Sometimes I forget it is running because it is so quiet.

That is pretty impressive. I did a quick search and found it at Home Depot.

A friend had an almost silent compressor, home built from an old refrigerator compressor. Sounds like someone has commercialized the idea.
