Got some serious initiative this weekend, and cranked out 15 28mm pirate figures ready for flocking and sealing, and another 15 odd figures in the "almost ready" stages of being finished.

I noticed that when I get the initiative and on a roll, I can get a lot of figures done.
Block painting at the beginning helps.

So now I have quite a few scurvy buccaneers ready to pillage and plunder!

Yeah, I go through dry patches where I don't do any work for quite a while, then all of a sudden I try to go through everything on my painting table.

Example: I wanted a Viking character figure for a Pathfinder game. A buddy gave me a couple boxes of the Gripping Beast plastic multi-part figures. Now I have 7-8 glued together, half of them painted!

Yes, but they don't come often enough.

rustymusket18 Oct 2021 8:23 a.m. PST

Yes, I am back and forth on my painting. We will see if this winter changes my past habits. I usually think winter will be a good time to get painting done and then I don't so any. I end up painting spring, summer and fall.

79thPA +1

Not often enough.

cavcrazy18 Oct 2021 9:07 a.m. PST

I'm on one now. I am painting about 4 hours every night for the last 4 weeks or so. I tend to get on a roll when I start a new period to game.

My first figures certainly looked like they were painted with a Paint roller.

^ But, they are painted.

Steady rate. Tortoise like I paint every day.

Yes! I wish they came more often though, as previous posters have said!

Not in a long time.

+2 79thPA. The desire is there, but not the time, nor the commitment. I used to hide away in my crafting room in the basement, but then my wife complained that we didn't get enough time together. She is more important to me than my hobbies, so I spend my "painting time" with her, instead. I am OK with that. According to the actuaries, I have 10 years left to live. I want those years to be the best for her, and for me. Cheers!

I do, but once the roll is over, I'm pretty burned out on painting.

Bashytubits18 Oct 2021 1:29 p.m. PST

Yes, but only once in a while or when I need something urgently.

KSmyth18 Oct 2021 2:04 p.m. PST

I paint a couple of hours every day. Some days are more productive than others, but I shoot for consistency.

Yes, I am retired and that's a bonus.

Bandolier18 Oct 2021 2:05 p.m. PST

I paint 4-5 times a week so I am often on a roll.
However, I usually take a break of 4-6 weeks a year to freshen up once the interest begins to wane.

TMPWargamerabbit18 Oct 2021 3:25 p.m. PST

Still painting. If I answer more my brain may awaken to other possible issues around the warren needing attention.

That's how most of my painting gets done, actually.

Sometimes it flows, sometimes it doesn't! If it isn't flowing I stick to boring bits like blocking in colour, undercoating or figure prep. There are times when I sit down and think is it worth it today! A few strokes of a brush and the magic begins.

Same as Tom Reed and Bandolier.

Covid working from home has certainly increased my painting time (during meetings and such) but I do run into long stretches (sometimes up to a few months every year) where I am not painting at all.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP19 Oct 2021 10:17 a.m. PST

I try to paint every day. I'm an early riser, and wife is a night owl, so when I get up, I have 2-3 hours to go at it.

Personal logo Parzival Supporting Member of TMP19 Oct 2021 12:13 p.m. PST

That's usually how I do it, but it's more "spurt" than "roll." I kinda have to push myself to make it a roll…
