We are doing a few military museums in the UK. Our latest was the Royal Lancers & Nottingham Yeomanry Museum at Thoresby:-

rlnymuseum.co.uk

Its small but for the history men its a small gem.
as its small you may not want to travel too far to get to it. It took us 90 min to get there but to us it was time well spent.

The guys there are great to talk to most, seem to be ex military so a mine of interesting tales.

To be honest its better than IWM North an order of magnitude bigger site. The IWM North is utterly hopeless, few exhibits and poorly laid out and for its size a bit racist, they don't even cover folk like the Indian army, more of whom fought on our side than actual Brits.

Agreed, UshCha, it's well worth the visit. If you go by train like I did, though, get off at Mansfield, not Mansfield Woodhouse, so you can easily find a taxi. It also covers the local Yeomanry regiments, not just the lancers.
