…Sniper Rifle

"A robot dog design armed with a 6.5 mm Creedmoor sniper rifle capable of precisely hitting targets from 3,940 feet away has been unveiled at the US Army trade show.

The 'Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle' (SPUR) is the brainchild of Philadelphia-based Ghost Robotics and arms manufacturer SWORD International of Sparks, Nevada.

Placed on top of one of Ghost Robotics' existing 'quadrupedal unmanned ground vehicle' designs, SPUR can be remotely instructed to load, unload and fire its rifle…"

Every one of these robotics platforms will be weaponized. We have already seen autonomous target selection being deployed (Libya 2020) and it is likely that it is being more widely utilized than reported. This precision weapon is far less terrifying than slapping an MG or ordinance on it. These platforms offer not only the advantage of freedom from human concerns like fear, fatigue, and conscience, but they also avoid the morale sapping effects of human casualties when disable/destroyed. They also conveniently complicate any attempts at accountability, including for war crimes. They must be supremely appealing for dictators and tyrants due to their usefulness for internal operations as well.

As long as the robots aren't shopping for their own weapons :-)

As with drones you will see more & more AI, robots, etc., on the battlefield. But these won't replace all humans on that same battlefield. At least not for a very long time …

IIRC the Russians have done this already. It is coming sooner or later as the norm.
