"At least five people have been killed and two others injured by a man using a bow and arrows to carry out attacks in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg.

Police arrested the suspect after he marauded through the town for 30 minutes firing randomly at victims and are probing a possible terror motive.

'We can unfortunately confirm that there are several injured and also unfortunately several killed in this episode,' police official Oyvind Aas told a news conference…"

Norway have fairly strict gun laws. Police work unarmed. They have pistols in the squad car but can only access them of ordered or if they are under attack.

Here police confronted the man but was driven off by arrows. Then the police lost track of him and he killed five people before he was arrested.

He had an powerful hunting bow according to the police.

I guess this case might rise a discussion if the police should be armed…
We had a case in a University in Urals this year when a student armed himself with semi-auto shotgun and went into his alma mater to kill people bcs he didn't like them.

The guard was unarmed so he was the first victim. When the gunshots were reported to the police, the closest road patrol took the call, got to the place before emergency responce team, found the killer, confronted him and not only won the duel with his handgun, but kept the suspect alive, aiming for arms and legs. There were still many deaths, but at least police officer did his job fast and did it right. If he wasn'r armed I guess we'd had more killings.

"…aiming for arms and legs."
Not a smart decision, and not necessarily 'less than lethal'. There are major arteries in both of those targets, and they won't necessarily stop the bad guy.

Folks around here would probably try to classify the weapon as an "assault weapon". Sorry, that's getting political.

My condolences and prayers for the families of the slain.

I'd say he did the right thing

and in the end the criminal had one of the legs amputated

Yes looks like a case of a radicalization to be an religiously inspired jihadi. Sadly with e.g. the things that recently happened in A'stan making it a Jihadis' paradise. We may see more of this with these terrorists morons claiming to be affiliated with AQ, ISIS, etc. Who look like to some that radical islam has defeated the USA. Which is hard for many not to see that. Just turn on the news …

I wonder what the fatality count would be if he had access to a handgun? Not to minimize in any way- the US probably has more shooting fatalities than this in any given day. I believe the last number I saw was over 100 Americans are shot and killed on a daily basis (with about 60% being suicides) and double that being shot non fatally.

In the previous terrorist attack in Norway, the attacker did have access to guns and explosives. He killed 69 with bullets and 8 with explosives. About another 300 were injured in various ways but at least 33 were injured by bullets.

He was a far right white supremist.

Yes, ABB, was the most dangerous kind of terrorist, ruthless, organized and dedicated. And, of course, a coward. As soon as the police showed up he surrenderd.

A bow and arrow was the weapon of age for millenniums

Of course the body count would be more if he had a handgun. If he had the ammo & knew how to use the weapon …

That is why militaries use rifles, etc., instead of bows & arrows.

As soon as the police showed up he surrenderd.
Too bad they don't have the death penalty …

Thresher0114 Oct 2021 4:11 p.m. PST

Very sad.

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, or a bow, is with a good guy with a gun, Robin Hood, or a well trained English archer.
