Any one here at TMP happen to know if there is a board game out there that uses ship and plane counter to game a conflict between the US Navy VS PLA Navy in the south china sea sort of like the old 80's board games "Blue Water Navy" and " 2nd Fleet" did with the Soviets VS NATO did? Thank you in advance. I would love to do a board game that has the modern US Navy and PLA Navy recent ships and aircraft counters.

South China Sea, and Breaking the Chains from Compass Games.

Unfortunately, all of those Compass games have issues with undeveloped scenarios, some of the game systems don't quite work well, there are many units that sit around doing nothing and they are thought by many gamers to be "game kits" where you develop your own scenarios than anything else. I wrote the review on BGG for Indian Ocean and was not terribly impressed.

It would be nice if there were some updates, and/or house rules for 5th Fleet (2nd Fleet's Asian cousin, IIRC – don't recall them having stats for Chinese vessels, but I suppose it could – more likely to just be Soviets though), and clearly out of date, since it was produced in the 1970s, or 1980s, IIRC.

Compass Games are printing the fleet series again in the near future.

That is good to hear, but only if the Chinese Navy is present, and its counters/forces updated, along with those of opponents too.

Have you heard of Asian Fleet.
