Fantasy Warriors is an old game by Grenadier. It's pretty dead now, but it's got a small, fanatic following.
Unfortunately Grenadier went bankrupt a few years after the game was released so never really got more develloped. Which is a shame as all I hear about it, it's a nice and relatively realistic game.
A contest would be fun to blow a bit of new life in the game. Also, it's not really linked anymore to a specific manufacturer, so any brand of miniatures could be used.

The basic game is downloadable here:

And the FW Yahoo group:

Unfortunately the FW Companion book isn't available yet online, but quite necessary for army-lists.

As a theme I'd suggest Dark Ages to Bronze Age fantasy, i.e. LotR to Bran Mak Morn, no gunpowder and no full plate armour.

I would love a copy, but cant get anything to down load. Surely with all the controversey a PDF of old rules wouldnt put peole off buying a new set when or if it is published would it?

FYI. e-m4 still carry the basic warriors.

Mirliton are also doing a pretty wide range of the original miniatures, and I think they are either printing the rules or have made it available for free (I can't remember where I got my PDF copy from…). The website is grenadier.it. My only sadness about it all is the fact that they have not yet redone the dwarves range.
