Can't beat a Sherman (unless you have a 75 or 88mm A/T gun of course).

Let's have a go. Small hatch and welded hull. Engine covers with a grille (so not an M4 or M4A4). British (so not an M4A3). No loader's "door", one piece differential housing. I think I see T49 all steel tracks?

Odd to see the ventilators over the grouser compartment, but otherwise this is an M4A2 (or Sherman III of course) A squadron of the Grenadier Guards, Guards Armoured Division…I think…..

Revell says M4A3, No one makes a decent M4A2 in 1/144 as far as I know. I have a ton of British decals so I use them once in a while (I'm not a rivet counter at this scale :D). Victrix will be coming out with M4A1s at some point but not sure about any M4A2s. This was the original line up of Shermans from them but so far only the M4A3 has been released as well as the Firefly.

That link goes a simply superb site.

I thought I knew most of the Sherman rivet counting sites, but that is new to me and I will go back to it many times.

Snag is that I do now have, in 1/72, an M4A1, M4A2 (x3), M4A3 75 and M4A3 76 (x2), an M4A3 105, an M4 105, and an M4 104 with HVSS, so any errors I am stuck with.

I have an M4A4 assembled and undercoated and an M4A1 76 in the attic also, so this site will help. I did want to swap the turret on the latter, so the details here are invaluable.

Really appreciated. Counting rivets on a Sherman? Cast or welded or even hybrid, both, but no riveting that I can see!

The Victrix models look great, but all the bottom four have the same hull. The M4A2 and M4A3 76s are absolutely identical throughout.

That site also goes in to detail on most of the armored vehicles in the US inventory. I agree on the hulls, maybe to save on new molds hoping no one will notice? :)

Totally agree and I will say they seem to have made a good job of it. They basically have two turrets (although they did provide a new mantlet and gun for the 105). The T80 has the round loader's hatch. They have two hulls, a cast hull (but again one of these has the three piece bolted transmission cover) and a welded one (large hatch, 47degree glacis plate and typical finish of an M4A3). The only "dodgy" one is the M4A2. They did come with the later turret and the different glacis plate (rarely) but had a very different engine cover and rear appearance.

But again, they make fine models and some stowed kit would cover much for the anoraks amongst us.

Finally, I prefer your Revell small hatch version shown at the top. Other than the grouser compartment ventilators, that is an M4A2 in British use, as a Sherman III, and a great little model
