…Poland

"America's chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan sent an unfortunate signal to our friends and foes alike that U.S. leadership is receding on the world stage. From the Taiwan Strait to the Persian Gulf to Central and Eastern Europe, America's friends watch our actions with growing concern and our adversaries seek advantage.

In the midst of the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, President Vladimir Putin put on a significant show of force with the "Zapad-2021" military exercise with Belarus. The U.S. and its NATO allies must watch their eastern flank. As the exercise demonstrated, Russia has steadily modernized and increased its capabilities over the past decade. While it is unlikely that Putin would risk invading a European neighbor at this time, it cannot be ruled out given the debacle he witnessed in Afghanistan…"

After you linked to throwing Taiwan under the bus, I wonder how you think the Poles can depend upon us.

Oddball06 Oct 2021 6:30 a.m. PST

They can't.

Deleted by Moderator is a fickle ally.

Give ya money, talk a good game, but when the chips are down, US is leaving town.

Maybe someone should explain to Deleted by Moderator that a two front war is BAD! Take a note from Nixon, the last time we had to face both of them. This time make nice with the Russians.

The Poles are tough. They can take care of themselves.

oldnorthstate08 Oct 2021 5:10 p.m. PST

We have more in common with the Poles than the French or other Western countries. As far as Nato goes it is largely unreliable.

a two front war is BAD!
At this point I don't think we can fight a one front war. Nor may want to … which at this time could be a good thing …

"Open Door" for Ukraine And Georgia To Join NATO

arealdeadone20 Oct 2021 2:27 a.m. PST

So the US is telling Ukraine and Georgia to provoke Russia? After SC Sea, Crimea/Donbass
and now Afghanistan we know the US would do nothing if Russia conquered these countries after they put on applications for NATO memberships.

Barin120 Oct 2021 6:14 a.m. PST

I think this is just to make those politicians in Ukraine and Georgia to look better in the eyes of their electorate.
I guess recent Nuland visit to Moscow was to discuss what US wants for abandoning these states.

Barin, You are our "Man in Russia" … so I'll go with your take on this type of thing over most others.

However you may be a "sleeper KGB type" … and you are doing a good job of fooling me ! 😮😣🤯

With all the downsizing of NATO forces how can they defend anything ?

I increasingly don't think the west is worth defending. We stand for nothing, believe in nothing, are nothing. Mindless consumers with loyalty to anything or even history (eg by 2036 half the Canadian population is "visible minority" immigrant or second generation – how do they relate to Canada as a historical concept or heritage?). Societies without common values or heritage or traditions save SPEND SPEND SPEND CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME.

Thus the west deserves to be destroyed and part of me hopes we are destroyed by someone else before we destroy ourselves as I don't fancy cultural and social suicide.

backstab25 Oct 2021 1:16 a.m. PST

I'd rather have a flawed west than something like what Russia, China, North Korea and Iran have.

arealdeadone25 Oct 2021 2:02 a.m. PST

The west isn't just flawed. It is unravelling all the hard work of previous generations. As such the west's future isn't that far removed from the third world.
