I just invented it today.
Ahem.

"Have fun. Blame the dice."

Stryderg05 Oct 2021 7:33 p.m. PST

Nice. Are you going to put it on a coat of arms? Maybe with a lion rampant with two tumbling dice falling from his raised paw?

John the OFM05 Oct 2021 7:44 p.m. PST

Google Translate says:
"Iocum habere. reprehendo alea."
Alea iacta est, y'all.

I'll have to seek out me good friend Hark the Herald for a legit coat of arms.

Sounds like a great motto for a wargamer!

Another one:

"You plan, the dice laugh"

;-)

Clausewitz said that the best laid plans do not survive the first die rolls.

"Good generals make their own luck" would be better. That way we can't be just considered some what pathetic gamblers.

John the OFM05 Oct 2021 10:09 p.m. PST

"Pathetic".
There you go again, trying to make friends and influence people.

years ago I bought a "Larry Leadhead" T-shirt that says something like: Brilliant Strategist – Lousy Dice Roller"

Fun good. Dice bad.

Works for me.

John, "locum" means "place", not "fun".

Apparently the Latin for "fun" is "iocus" or "ludus". Hence jocular, joke and ludicrous !

But one bit of the internet says that the Latin for "fun" is "fun". Is that is someone's idea of a joke ?

John the OFM08 Oct 2021 4:28 p.m. PST

Blame Google Translate. I last took Latin in 1968.
