Years ago we played ironsclads. Lots of fun. Meanwhile, i have forgotten the rules we used so i hope maybe someone in here can direct me in the right direction based on my memory of the game.

Fist of all, each iron clad had a captain. We would roll for each captians ability and personality. Some were timid, others bold and some drunkards. It would impact the game as some character trades would allow for certain actions and others would not.
For each ship we would have a blueprint of the ship and the location and charecteristics of the guns and the armor. Where were the big guns? How much could they turn etc?
As far as i remember the game oerated with different ships (and guns) had specific manoeuvrability allowing some to turn quickly and others not so.
I completely get it: This is a very general description that probably fits the vast majority of ironclad rules, but i just wanted to give it a try as we really had tons of fun with these rules.
So anyone…?

Blood, Sweat and Iron. Terrific set of rules. All the data for each ship including damage is on a playing card sized card for each ship. Works with any scale ship.

My gaming group has used Yaquinto's Ironclads and Ironclads Expansion rules for years. Unfortunately, they are long outof print, so your only option would be eBay or some other secondary market.

Beer and Pretzels Ironclads, by Buck Surdu.

Those have been my go to rules for…. almost 20 years?

ACW ironclad rules by Jeff Peach and Les Booth are available free online and have captain characteristics (timid, reckless, etc.) but not drunk captains and no simulation of turning turrets/guns.

What you describe sounds like an adaptation to the tabletop of the old Yaquinto Ironclad board game rules, or one of its successors, but I don't recall them having captain characteristics.
